The City of Monash invested approximately $17 million to position the MARC facility as one of Australia’s finest. Built on the site of the former Waverley Outdoor Swimming Pool - the Council vision was realised with the Centre regarded by many as one of the most attractive multi-faceted community leisure venues in Australia. The Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre opened on 10 December 2001. Since that time the centre has become widely embraced and utilised by the community and also as a training ground for numerous elite sports.
