The Tai Chi and Qigong Foundations in Teaching will give you the foundations to teach a tai chi class to beginner students in a fitness or community centre. Exercises included in the course are:
Standing Meditation, Rooster Crowing in the Morning, Wise Owl Turns its Head, Warrior Punch, Separating Heaven and Earth, Zhan Zhuang (Stand Like a Tree) and Silk Reeling. Tai Chi skills include:
Stances, Tai Chi Walking (forward), Tai Chi Walking (retreating), Tai Chi Stepping (to the side), Foundation (or common) postures
This course does not teach a tai chi form. Rather, it gives you the groundwork of tai chi principles of movement. Without the stress of having to remember a sequence of movements, you are more likely to enjoy the learning experience. The skills you will learn in this course will prepare you for more advanced courses in teaching tai chi. As Tai Chi is an art that needs to be absorbed, you will have up to 12 months to complete all assessment tasks.
Appraisal of your skills and knowledge will be ongoing, giving you the opportunity to develop your understanding and application of skills gradually. As you are working through the manual, different practical tasks are presented. Some tasks require the submission of a short video of your practice. You will be required to meet with the course facilitator prior to submitting videos for assessment. Practice should be done daily and should increase in time from approximately 5 minutes to 30 minutes, as your skills and knowledge grow.
You will receive a comprehensive course manual and have access to Rising Moon Tai Chi resources which will help with your professional as well as personal development. At the completion of the course you have the option to apply for either a 6-month or 12-month Mentorship with Sifu Jenny Harrison.
