The Aqua Alliance Instructor Update challenges the outdated notion that older adults simply want to “move around” in the water without structure or purpose. It dismantles the myth that fun and connection can’t coexist with thoughtful programming. https://www.aquaalliance.com.au/aquatic-boosters-for-older-adults
Older adults deserve more than a casual splash — they deserve progressive, informed, and goal-oriented training, just like any other population. Instructors are equipped with a clear, purposeful framework they can apply immediately — one that respects the complexity of ageing bodies and minds. This training repositions older adult programming not as a soft option, but as a space for skilled, considered, and impactful instruction — no different in rigour or importance than training elite athletes.
This session is tailored for qualified aqua instructors working with ageing populations. It supports instructors in refining the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to deliver safe, effective, and inclusive aquatic programs for older adults.
The training combines evidence-informed theory with hands-on practice and reflective learning. It includes lecture-based education, interactive workshops, practical delivery, and an in-water masterclass to help instructors explore and refine movement options for a range of abilities.
Instructors will:
• Deepen understanding of functional ageing and program design
• Explore ways to modify exercises for safety, progression, and inclusion
• Integrate brain-body training to support cognitive and physical health
• Apply the 10 Key Movement Pillars and ADLs
• Engage in peer review, questioning, and reflection as part of assessment
The Aqua Alliance Instructor Update ensures instructors leave with practical skills they can apply to any aquatic class, with specific relevance to older adults. Reserve your spot now.
