Diabetes is one of Australia's most prevalent chronic health conditions, and exercise professionals are increasingly working with individuals living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. This course provides an evidence-informed introduction to diabetes and the role of exercise in its prevention and management. Participants will develop an understanding of the prevalence and impact of diabetes, the physiological differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and the benefits of physical activity for improving health outcomes.
Through practical guidance and real-world considerations, this course explores exercise prescription principles, blood glucose management, hypoglycaemia recognition and response, diabetes-related complications, and strategies for safely programming and sequencing exercise. Upon completion, exercise professionals will be better equipped to support clients living with diabetes through safe, effective and client-centred exercise interventions within their scope of practice.
